The MESA mission is to provide enrichment opportunities and high quality resources that inspire students underrepresented in STEM fields, to pursue education and careers in math, engineering, and science. The MESA vision is to increase the number of underrepresented students pursuing education and entering the workforce in STEM fields.

WA MESA History

  • 1976 the University of Washington developed a School of Engineering.
  • Washington MESA formally launched in 1982.
  • In our first few years, we launched one center and served 80 students.
  • Since our founding, over 40,000 K-12 students enrolled in MESA and over 32,000 have gone on to enter a college or university.

What have we been up to?

  • We’ve recently revised and updated our enrichment materials and 4 new curricula.
  • We’ve recently revised and updated our teacher development and three statewide professional development trainings.
  • We engaged 108 teachers in 2011-12, 10 % more than we did two years ago.
  • We engaged 3066 students, 14% more than we did one year ago.
